Get Started

Bringing Universal Education to your centre is simple. First, let’s take a look at our inspiration.

Our Inspiration... Big Love

The FPMT and Universal Education

This page was created for FPMT Centres to help them understand how they can start engaging in Universal Education. Universal Education stands at the heart of FPMT’s mission, embodying one of the five essential pillars of service that shape our centres. This innovative approach merges timeless wisdom with modern insights, aiming to cultivate a balanced and compassionate mind.

Guided by the teachings of Lama Yeshe, His Holiness the Dalai Lama, and Lama Zopa Rinpoche, Universal Education seeks to foster inner transformation and altruistic service. It provides a secular pathway for individuals to explore meaningful living and contribute positively to their communities.

As a cornerstone of FPMT centres, Universal Education is our commitment to nurturing compassionate, wise, and ethically minded individuals, contributing to a more understanding and peaceful world.

Our Founder

Lama Yeshe's Big Love

Lama Yeshe envisioned an education system that transcends conventional boundaries, aiming to nurture the totality of human reality. He believed in an education that harmonises spiritual wisdom with scientific knowledge, fostering a balanced and comprehensive understanding of human nature and the universe.

Be wise. Treat yourself, your mind, sympathetically, with loving kindness. If you are gentle with yourself you will become gentle with others, so don't push.

Our Patron

His Holiness the Dalai Lama's Vision

His Holiness the Dalai Lama emphasises the importance of developing a sense of universal responsibility, highlighting its role in spreading peace and ethical values across the globe. He advocates for an education system that not only imparts knowledge but also cultivates a deep sense of compassion and empathy among individuals.

My religion is simple, my religion is kindness.

Our Former Spiritual Director

Lama Zopa Rinpoche's Insights

Lama Zopa Rinpoche further illuminated the path of Universal Education, stressing its significance in achieving enlightenment and serving others. He underscored the transformative power of education in shaping minds and hearts, guiding us towards a more altruistic and fulfilled life.

The creator of happiness and suffering is your own mind so you have to learn about mind which is learning about yourself.

Embodying the 16 Guidelines

1. Sowing Big Love

FDCW’s flagship programme is the 16 Guidelines for Life. Engaging with Universal Education begins by familiarising yourself with the 16 Guidelines, reflecting on them and embodying them. Following the advice of Lama Zopa Rinpoche, the 16 Guidelines for Life book was written based on the 16 Human Dharmas composed in seventh century Tibet by King Songtsen Gampo.

To start working with the 16 Guidelines we recommend trying the 16G Book, the 16G Meditations Self-Study Course or the 16G App. It depends on whether you prefer to: read and contemplate on the book, or; listen, read and journal in the meditations course, or; receive quick daily reflection reminders with the app.

Starting a Group Session

2. Growing Big Love

Once you have begun to embody the 16 Guidelines, the next step is to begin a group session in your community. It’s a great way to connect, share, and grow together. Creating your own group also deepens your understanding and brings the 16 guidelines into everyday life.

With Conversations that Matter, you can guide meaningful discussions that inspire and empower.
