Please contact us if it might be an obstacle for you. \nFacilitator\nVen. Gönpo is  an accredited FDCW facilitator and a Buddhist monk based in Australia. He  discovered Buddhism as a child through martial arts movies and TV shows\, this was the inspiration for the childhood dream of becoming a wandering kung fu monk. It was a few decades before part of that dream could be realized with many other life adventures distracting him from the spiritual path in his teens and twenties. \nIt wasn’t until he was in his thirties that Gönpo began to really understand the power of Buddhist teachings when he used them to navigate the emotional roller-coaster of life’s many experiences such as a marriage break down and raising children alone. Fortunately\, due the kindness of his teachers and great good karma\, after his children finished school\, Gönpo was able to fulfil the long-held dream of becoming a monk\, albeit without the kung fu. Ending a 20-year career as a high school teacher of languages\, he become a wandering monk spending time studying and meditating in Europe\, India and Nepal before returning to his hometown\, Brisbane\, to take up the role of Spiritual Care Practitioner at Karuna Hospice Services\, giving care and support to people with life limiting illnesses and their families. \nIn his time as a school teacher\, it was the feedback from students around mindfulness practices and life lessons that had the biggest impact on Gönpo\, motivating him to become a 16 Guidelines for a Happy Life facilitator. In his sessions\, Gönpo encourages discussion and deep engagement in the topics\, challenging participants to examine their own ways of thinking. Through understanding how we are now\, we are better equipped to develop the habits that will bring us closer to how we want to be\, interacting with our own minds and the people around us in ways that will make us and the communities we live in\, happier and healthier. \nMore info\nFor more information and to register please visit the Maitreya Institute website

SUMMARY:Parenting with Compassion & Wisdom
DESCRIPTION:This program is connected to our Children’s series\, hosted at the Tara Redwood School at the same time. \nIn-Person and online via Zoom \nCreating Compassionate Cultures for Children Series\nThis series of 4 classes leads us along a journey of reflection\, discussion\, and practical application for our everyday lives as parents. \nWe follow the framework developed over 35 years at Tara Redwood School\, the model school for Creating Compassionate Cultures. It is a secular program based on ancient wisdom and contemporary science and was inspired by Lama Thubten Yeshe\, who talked about his concept of Universal Education. \nCLASS ONE: Parent as Guide and Role Model\nThrough reflection\, we connect with aspects of our lives that have influenced our parenting styles. We explore the questions: What do we want to strengthen\, and what would we like to change? What are our deepest wishes for our home\, ourselves\, and our children? \nCLASS TWO: Creating Our Dreams\nWe explore practical and constructive ways to guide and nurture our children towards what we really want for our children and family. Through understanding the nature of all things as interconnected and in the nature of change\, we find we have infinite possibilities to achieve our dreams. \nCLASS THREE\nOur journey continues as we explore the psychology of ourselves as parents. We explore how emotions are triggered and how we can start to change our own emotional triggers. We also learn about practical tools to help our children develop skills for transforming their emotions. \nCLASS FOUR\nWe now expand our deeper understanding to include others in our families\, communities\, and the world. What we have discovered together and integrated into our home has nurtured empathy and compassion. We explore ways to empower ourselves and engage in compassion in action \nThis program is for everyone\, no background or experience in Buddhism is required. You can drop into the classes as it suits your schedule or come to all of them. \nLeader\n \nPam Cayton\nPam Cayton lived in Nepal from 1978-88 where she studied Buddhism\, taught English and helped organize courses in Buddhist philosophy and meditation. In 1981\, she founded The Himalayan Yogic Institute\, now the Himalayan Buddhist Meditation Center in Kathmandu. After moving to the United States in 1988 with her husband…\nLearn more about Pam Cayton \n  \nREGISTER HERE
