SUMMARY:FREE-Monthly Meet-up Transformative Mindfulness with Hilary McMichael
DESCRIPTION:About this session:\nA freely offered online event\, with a settling meditation and a complete practice from the program TMM. All you need is a few colored pencils and some paper. Group sharing is optional. \nMore information:\n\n\nThis session is offered online on the 21st January\, from 5pm to 6:15 pm \nContact email: hilary.educationuniverselle@gmail.com \nFacilitator: Hilary McMichael\nBorn English but Mediterranean at heart\, I have been involved in Universal Education programs since 2009\, first as a translator for teachers from Anglo-Saxon countries\, then as a trainer. I now facilitate the 16 Attitudes and Transformative Mindfulness Methods\, as well as a program on compassion. \nI am also a qualified trainer to teach Jon Kabat-Zinn’s MBSR (Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction) cycle. I really enjoy teaching and sharing these practices with groups and in individual sessions. Mindfulness of our body\, our breathing\, and our mind allows us to be better physically and mentally. These programs give us practical tools to transform ourselves.\nMy first passion for painting and drawing (I graduated from the École Nationale des Beaux-Arts in Montpellier) has become a means of expression that brings together my creativity and my spiritual life. \nAs a gardener and hiker\, my philosophy of life leads me towards a happy and joyful simplicity\, based on the values of companionship\, peace\, and trust.

SUMMARY:A Mindful Heart - Sunday in person Community Meditations
DESCRIPTION:About the Sessions\nJoin a wonderful team of facilitators  for a series of Meditations and meaningful discussions organized by Jamyang Buddhist  Centre in Leeds (UK). \nThis series is structured into 1 hour  sessions and is offered on Sundays at 10:30 am GMT. \nFrom January to the end of March the Sunday community meditations will be focusing on ‘A Mindful Heart’. \nInspired by the Creating Compassionate Cultures program (“CCC”) by Pam Cayton\, and developed by the Foundation for Developing Compassion and Wisdom. Grounded in three core pathways of learning: Knowledge\, Strength\, and Compassion. These pathways guide you towards a happier\, more meaningful life by fostering inner growth and a warmer connection with others. \nDesigned to help you develop a deeper understanding of how the mind works. Please contact us if it might be an obstacle for you. \nFacilitator\nVen. Gönpo is  an accredited FDCW facilitator and a Buddhist monk based in Australia. He  discovered Buddhism as a child through martial arts movies and TV shows\, this was the inspiration for the childhood dream of becoming a wandering kung fu monk. It was a few decades before part of that dream could be realized with many other life adventures distracting him from the spiritual path in his teens and twenties. \nIt wasn’t until he was in his thirties that Gönpo began to really understand the power of Buddhist teachings when he used them to navigate the emotional roller-coaster of life’s many experiences such as a marriage break down and raising children alone. Fortunately\, due the kindness of his teachers and great good karma\, after his children finished school\, Gönpo was able to fulfil the long-held dream of becoming a monk\, albeit without the kung fu. Ending a 20-year career as a high school teacher of languages\, he become a wandering monk spending time studying and meditating in Europe\, India and Nepal before returning to his hometown\, Brisbane\, to take up the role of Spiritual Care Practitioner at Karuna Hospice Services\, giving care and support to people with life limiting illnesses and their families. \nIn his time as a school teacher\, it was the feedback from students around mindfulness practices and life lessons that had the biggest impact on Gönpo\, motivating him to become a 16 Guidelines for a Happy Life facilitator. In his sessions\, Gönpo encourages discussion and deep engagement in the topics\, challenging participants to examine their own ways of thinking. Through understanding how we are now\, we are better equipped to develop the habits that will bring us closer to how we want to be\, interacting with our own minds and the people around us in ways that will make us and the communities we live in\, happier and healthier. \nMore info\nFor more information and to register please visit the Maitreya Institute website

SUMMARY:Parenting with Compassion & Wisdom
DESCRIPTION:This program is connected to our Children’s series\, hosted at the Tara Redwood School at the same time. \nIn-Person and online via Zoom \nCreating Compassionate Cultures for Children Series\nThis series of 4 classes leads us along a journey of reflection\, discussion\, and practical application for our everyday lives as parents. \nWe follow the framework developed over 35 years at Tara Redwood School\, the model school for Creating Compassionate Cultures. It is a secular program based on ancient wisdom and contemporary science and was inspired by Lama Thubten Yeshe\, who talked about his concept of Universal Education. \nCLASS ONE: Parent as Guide and Role Model\nThrough reflection\, we connect with aspects of our lives that have influenced our parenting styles. We explore the questions: What do we want to strengthen\, and what would we like to change? What are our deepest wishes for our home\, ourselves\, and our children? \nCLASS TWO: Creating Our Dreams\nWe explore practical and constructive ways to guide and nurture our children towards what we really want for our children and family. Through understanding the nature of all things as interconnected and in the nature of change\, we find we have infinite possibilities to achieve our dreams. \nCLASS THREE\nOur journey continues as we explore the psychology of ourselves as parents. We explore how emotions are triggered and how we can start to change our own emotional triggers. We also learn about practical tools to help our children develop skills for transforming their emotions. \nCLASS FOUR\nWe now expand our deeper understanding to include others in our families\, communities\, and the world. What we have discovered together and integrated into our home has nurtured empathy and compassion. We explore ways to empower ourselves and engage in compassion in action \nThis program is for everyone\, no background or experience in Buddhism is required. You can drop into the classes as it suits your schedule or come to all of them. \nLeader\n \nPam Cayton\nPam Cayton lived in Nepal from 1978-88 where she studied Buddhism\, taught English and helped organize courses in Buddhist philosophy and meditation. In 1981\, she founded The Himalayan Yogic Institute\, now the Himalayan Buddhist Meditation Center in Kathmandu. After moving to the United States in 1988 with her husband…\nLearn more about Pam Cayton \n  \nREGISTER HERE

SUMMARY:Summer Empathy Circles with Janna Weiss
DESCRIPTION:Empathy Circle with Janna Weiss\nOverview of the Sessions:\nIn this series of Empathy Circles with the 16 Guidelines\, we will explore the first Wisdom Theme: How We Think\, and its four Guidelines: \n\nHumility\nPatience\nContentment\nand Joy at the success of others / Delight.\n\nEmpathy Circles are an opportunity to practice and strengthen our active listening “empathy muscle” in an “empathy gym.” During the reflective listening practice\, we not only discuss the Guidelines\, but also embody and experience the Guidelines firsthand. \nBoth the 16 Guidelines and the Empathy Circle help grow and deepen our appreciation of our common humanity\, essential for cultivating genuine happiness\, and beneficial social action and harmony. \nThe first four Guidelines\, Humility\, Patience\, Contentment\, and Joy at the success of others\, are direct antidotes to our main afflictive minds: pride and self-centeredness that arise from our mistaken\, exaggerated view of self; anger and hatred; craving and greed; envy and jealousy. \nJanna will introduce each session with excerpts from the 16 Guidelines for Life: The Basics (included in the Conversations That Matter free resource)\, quotes\, and suggested topic questions\, or you can share whatever is alive in you. When it’s your turn to speak\, whatever is on your heart and mind is always welcome in an Empathy Circle. \nJoin any session—or all five! \nPlease come on time and plan on staying for the full 1.5 hours. \nAbout the Empathy Circles:\nThe Empathy Circle practice is the most effective gateway practice for learning\, practicing deep listening and empathy skills\, as well as nurturing an empathic way of being. \n\nThe Empathy Circle provides a structured dialogue process where each person feels fully heard; fostering mutual understanding and connection. The Empathy Circle practice not only hones empathy but also helps to develop a range of valuable skills\, such as communication and conflict management skills; making it a powerful tool for personal growth\, conflict resolution\, and meaningful dialogue. \nThe four core values of the Empathy Circle are empathy\, mutuality\, openness and caring. Sharing our experiences and practicing listening together can help us feel connected to others in a meaningful and supportive way. \nThese online Empathy Circles are for people of all ages and backgrounds\, who are looking for practical tools to create positive transformation in their homes\, individual lives\, relationships\, community\, or workplace. \nCurious? You can watch Janna introducing the Empathy Circles in a short video here \n\nSessions Schedule:\nTuesdays\, Jul 1\, 8\, 15\, 22 & 29\, 6:30–8pm EDT. You can join on any session!\nThere will be no recordings made. \nFor more information on how to join and to access support materials\, please visit the Shantideva Center website \nWho are these sessions for?\nThese Online Empathy Circles are for people of all ages\, backgrounds and ideas\, who are looking for practical tools to create positive transformation in their homes\, individual lives\, relationships\, community\, or workplace. \nAbout the facilitator:\nJanna is an acupuncturist and herbalist\, and teaches mind science in New York City. She holds a PhD from the University of Texas at Austin in Biological Sciences—Botany (ethnobotany).
