Building Balanced Empathy with Empathy circles organized by Land of Joy- A blended format course from the 26th to the 28th May


Building Balanced Empathy explores the themes of empathy, vulnerability and emotional resilience. What causes us to feel emotionally overwhelmed or makes us emotionally disconnect from others? How can we empathise from both our heart and our head? We will explore techniques empowering us to relate to ourselves and others in healthy and more balanced ways.

This course will help you:

  • Develop deeper self-understanding and therefore real empathy for others

  • Identify what pushes us out of balance allowing the space for wiser choices

  • Build closer, more nurturing relationships with family, friends and co-workers

  • Deepen your active listening and embodied speech

Who is this for?

This course is for people of all ages and backgrounds. It is designed for those who want to strengthen their inner resources which help build deep and sustainable connections and relationships. The course was developed by the Foundation for Developing Compassion and Wisdom (FDCW). The content is rooted in Buddhist philosophy and psychology and is supported by scientific research, Western philosophy, positive psychology, and other wisdom traditions.

This is offered as a blended course. You can choose to attend either in person at Land of Joy or to take part online via Zoom.

Course facilitator: The course will be lead by Wendy Ridley

Wendy has 40 years experience working in education – as a teacher, university lecturer, education department advisor and consultant specialising in religious education and philosophical enquiry. This has provided her with skills and passion to develop, deliver and oversee training programmes. Wendy has been involved in the development of FDCW as a Board member since 2004 and as a Senior 16G Facilitator. She has worked in 5 very different Buddhist centres and was the director of Jamyang Buddhist Centre Leeds for over 7 years
