A Little bit of Background
The 16 guidelines are for everyone who would like to experience greater wellbeing, ease, contentment, meaning, fulfilment, connection and joy. Each guideline is based on a positive quality.
Discoveries in neuroscience have shown that we have the potential to develop and transform our minds in a positive way. Practising these Guidelines can help strengthen our existing qualities and deepen our connection with others for a more meaningful and happier life.
The aim of the 16 Guidelines is to help people create long-term happiness and fulfilment for themselves and others. Each guideline represents a universal value or attitude which is rooted in the foundations of compassion and wisdom.
The 16 guidelines are a contemporary presentation of ancient wisdom, originating from the 7th-century King Songtsen Gampo from Tibet. They are a practical yet profound framework with which to orientate ourselves and our actions in the world.
There are precise causes of happiness and the 16 Guidelines is a powerful yet simple way for us to create these causes without needing to be associated with any particular belief or spiritual tradition.
“Watch your thoughts, they become your words;
watch your words, they become your actions;
watch your actions, they become your habits;
watch your habits, they become your character;
watch your character, it becomes your destiny.”
– Lao Tzu
