Our Policies

Ethical Fundraising Policy

FDCW is committed to ensuring that fundraising activities are carried out in an ethical manner. This policy applies to all Board members, employees, contractors and volunteers.

The purpose of this document is to identify FDCW’s position on fundraising practice and to document the standards expected in raising funds.

Ethical Fundraising

Financial contributions will only be accepted from companies, organisations or individuals which the FDCW Board has researched and agreed to be ethical in terms of human values and workers and environmental rights.

FDCW will not accept financial donations from companies, organisations and individuals involved in:

  • the production or distribution of armaments, tobacco or alcohol
  • environmental destruction (e.g. pollution; toxicity, destruction of wildlife habitats)
  • poor record on workers’ rights, human rights, tax avoidance, or corporate lobbying

FDCW’s guiding principle when fundraising is that we will apply fundraising approaches that we ourselves would be happy to receive.

FDCW will adhere to the following standards:

  • fundraising activities carried out by FDCW will comply with all relevant laws
  • we will never be excessive and will always be considerate in our fundraising approach
  • any trust or grant applications or any communications to the public while carrying out a fundraising activity will be truthful and non-deceptive
  • all monies raised via fundraising activities will be for the stated purpose of the appeal and will comply with FDCW’s mission and purpose
  • if strategic direction changes and a project fundraised for is completed or no longer a priority, money donated will be directed to the best use of funds to support FDCW. For example, a Legacy donation to fund the development of a new programme may not be a strategic priority, so funds will be redirected
  • nobody directly or indirectly employed by or volunteering for FDCW will accept commissions, bonuses or payments for fundraising activities on behalf of FDCW
  • fundraising activities will not be undertaken if they may be detrimental to the reputation or community standing of FDCW
